And everywhere I thought that everywhere, always,
Water is differently beautiful
K. Balmont

Water is the source of life on Earth. It is habitual and necessary, it surrounds us everywhere and constantly. Unable to do without life-giving moisture, people have been aware of its importance since ancient times. For a long time, man deified water: the Egyptians had the god of the flood, Sebek, depicted with the head of a crocodile, the ancient Greeks worshiped the god Poseidon, whose power was comparable to the thunder god Zeus. For centuries, the most courageous and determined people have been navigators. Over time, a man tries to conquer the water element, with which he is blood-bound: builds canals, changes river channels... It does not immediately come to the idea that a human, 70% consisting of water, is called to protect and preserve it, thereby preserving himself.

The purpose of the exhibition is to popularize the ideas of preserving the purity of water as a basic condition for a decent quality of life, maintaining health and longevity.
The main task of the exhibition is to attract the attention of a wide audience to a careful attitude to water and encourage them to pay attention to the beauty and diversity of the water element.

Water and man
Water in human life. Only where there is water, there is life. People plan their cities by the water, swim in water, work with water. Our life is based on water and is shaped by water. The sacred attitude to water is known all over the world. Water is at the heart of many religions. The charming and ephemeral image of water is presented in the art of many centuries: in music, painting, literature, cinema.

Water and animals
All creatures on earth need water. Some species cannot live a day without it, while others need to drink once every few days or even months. Few people think about how living organisms are adapted to the lack of oxygen in the water and why the inhabitants of the desert do not drink. Water as a habitat for animals. Animals as a form of water realization.

Water as an element
Since the end of the 18th century, Europe has been swept by the era of romanticism. And the element of water turned out to be simply an irreplaceable artistic image. Throughout the 19th century, the water surface in the "mood landscapes" was a mirror reflecting the inner world and state of the author. And the dramatic collision with the stormy sea waves remarkably highlighted and set off the scale of the human personality.

Water as a mystery
In anticipation of social upheaval, the theme of water in art acquired another meaning - secrets and symbols. The underwater world, flickering reflections of witchcraft lakes were felt as symbolic images of a pipe dream and a ghostly, illusory world.
When the new era came into its own, the water on the canvases of the artists became an image of cleansing from everything that had become obsolete, and the water surface turned into a symbol of a new free life.

Water as a game
It is no longer enough for modern painters to simply portray water. Various "games" with water are now popular. Water is used as a background for a portrait, as a habitat and as an archetypal image.
Still, painting is not mathematics. New discoveries do not negate old truths. And today's sophisticated and familiar artist, finding himself face to face with the eternal and always new water element, can forget for a while about his fashionable installations and suddenly see the spring river through the eyes of Levitan or mix colors on the palette and touch the canvas with Aivazovsky's emerald brushstroke. And the child, who for the first time learns the joy of drawing, will still draw blue waves and zigzags of the "sea" on paper, unaware of their ancient origin. After all, the theme of water in painting is an eternal theme ...

Water as a sign
At the dawn of civilization, man and the body of water were simply close, coexisted. Accordingly, the attitude of people to water was utilitarian. Water was thought of as a part of the surrounding world, a means for quenching thirst, bathing, and rest. Water was a transport and military artery, a source for irrigating fields and a hunting ground. To convey such an image, a scheme, a sign was enough. Depicting a pond, the ancient Egyptian artist used a series of conditionally geometric "waves" on a blue background to make it clear that the pond is filled with water. The same signs of water conveyed the surface of the river along which ships sailed, or water jets flowing from a vessel.
In ancient Russian painting until the 17th century, the image of water is very rare. It can only be found in the "Baptism" icons. The landscape in ancient Russian miniatures sometimes had the character of a geographical map. For example, if the plot unfolded on the bank of a river, then the river was shown from source to mouth, flowing through a number of lakes. Later, water was also conventionally depicted on Russian icons and miniatures. To show the sea, the artist applied the same curls and arcs with light paint on a dark background, representing the waves of the sea.
